There are different sources for the origin of the Irish name Malone, some of which are referred to below.
Our Malone line
Almut Malone is a descendant of John Malone and Mary Ann Delaney, who emigrated to the United States from Clonmacnoise, Ireland, landed with a ship in New Orleans, settled in Tecumseh, Nebraska, and homesteaded in Tully, Rawlins County, Kansas, in 1885.
One son of John and Mary, James Malone, built a stone house as a retirement place on the quarter of the old homestead in 1954, known as Shamrock Ranch.
His son Clarence Malone, a lawyer in Topeka, and his wife Audrey Wiss Malone, youngest of 13 children from a family emigrated from Solothurn, Switzerland, kept the place and inherited it to their children and grandchildren. Shamrock Ranch is today farmed by tenants and managed by the Malone family. The last two generations of Malone are buried on St. Patrick's cemetary located on one of the Shamrock quarters. The Malones are related to members of the Mentlick and Ryan families still living in the area.
